Most hotel amenity budgets go on things guests use once and bin: a mini shampoo, a pen, a tent card. The branded amenity that actually gets a photo, a review mention and a story told at dinner is usually something small that happens in the glass. That's the case for branded hotel amenities built around ice, and it's what this post is about.

If you're a GM, F&B manager or procurement lead, here's the practical version: where a logo cube earns its place, what it costs per guest, and how it compares with the amenities you already buy. It's not the right answer for every property, and I'll say where it isn't.

Start with what guests actually keep

Guests keep things that are useful, good-looking or both. They photograph things that are surprising. A logo on a pen is neither. Compare that with a drink arriving at check-in or in the club lounge with your mark raised in a 45 mm cube: it's gone in twenty minutes, but the photo lasts. That's why we wouldn't pitch branded ice as a replacement for the whole amenity list. It's the one line item that does the visible, shareable job.

We covered the check-in side in hotel welcome drink ideas. This post is the procurement view: which departments buy what, and how to cost it.

Four places a logo tray pays off inside a hotel

Club lounge and executive floors. Highest return per cube. The guests are repeat corporate travellers, the drink is spirit-forward, and large ice stays intact for the length of a conversation. One tray per service point is plenty.

Suite minibars and VIP turndown. Provide two or three frozen cubes in a small insulated pot with the room's welcome card. It's cheap and personal, and it only goes to the rooms you choose. Serviced apartments and holiday lets can run the same idea without a minibar team, and our guide to Airbnb welcome gift ideas in Australia works through the per-stay maths.

Resort and pool bars. Volume is higher and drinks are long, so the cube works as a garnish rather than a showpiece. If your property has a signature serve, put the logo cube in that drink and nothing else.

Weddings and conference packages. Event clients ask what's different about your venue. A branded cube for the welcome drink, with their names or event title swapped in, is an easy upsell. For event-specific numbers see our guide to branded ice for corporate events.

The maths on a 120-room property

Take a mid-size city hotel with a lobby bar, a club lounge and a minibar programme for suites. Four trays, one per service point, is $799.80 at the standard $199.95 price. Each tray makes six cubes per freeze. Two freezes a day per tray is 48 cubes a day across the four trays, or about 17,500 cubes a year. The tray cost works out at roughly 4.6 cents a cube in year one, before water and freezer space, and falls every year after because the trays keep going.

Now the comparison that matters. A custom-printed amenity (a branded bathroom range, say) typically needs minimums in the thousands and is bought once a year. The trays have no minimum and you can reorder a spare in the same week. If you want the rest of the maths on bagged versus machine ice, the commercial ice costs breakdown has it.

Which tray to order

For most hotels the hotel logo ice tray is the right starting point: a 2x3 tray of six 45 mm cubes, approximately 150 x 100 x 50 mm. If your property trades on heritage, the logo and EST date version adds your founding year to the cube. If you need a fully bespoke layout, such as a monogram plus a suite name or an event title, go to the fully custom logo, text and design tray at $199.95. All are the same price, so the choice is about layout rather than budget. The rest are in the branded ice cube tray collection.

One trade-off to be straight about: this is a small-batch Australian-made tray, not a mass-produced consumable. If you want 10,000 cubes of identical ice a day for a stadium concession, that's a different supply chain. We cover where the crossover sits in custom ice cube trays wholesale in Australia.

Artwork: what the logo needs to survive in ice

Ice has relief, not colour, so a gradient logo collapses into one shape. Send the single-colour version as a PNG, JPG or SVG. Keep strokes thick and wordmarks short; anything finer than about 1.5 mm vanishes in the frost. Print your logo at 35 mm wide and look at it from arm's length. If you can read it there, you can read it in a glass. More detail on what survives is in custom logo ice cubes: price, specs and ordering.

Running it in the kitchen without adding work

The only operational change is a freezer slot and a routine. Fill at close, pop at open, store in a lidded tub. Put it on the bar opening checklist and name an owner. Where it goes wrong is a tray left in the freezer on a Friday and nobody responsible for it on Saturday. Buy a spare tray per site so service never waits on a freeze.

What a branded hotel order actually involves

You can order a single tray from $199.95 with no minimum quantity, or ask for tiered pricing if you're ordering for several properties. You supply your logo as a PNG, JPG or SVG, we send a digital proof, and production takes 2 to 5 business days after approval plus domestic delivery. Allow four weeks door to door so you can test-freeze before guests see it. For a December launch or pre-summer refresh, order by mid-November; for January and February conference and wedding trade, get artwork in before the Christmas shutdown. Start with the branded ice cube tray collection, or browse the full range if you're still scoping.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for branded hotel ice trays?

One tray. There's no minimum quantity, so a single property can start with one tray at $199.95 AUD. Groups ordering for several properties can ask for tiered bulk pricing through the corporate enquiry form.

How long does a branded ice tray order take?

Production is 2 to 5 business days after you approve the digital proof, plus domestic delivery. Allow about four weeks door to door so there's time to test-freeze and fix artwork before a launch or peak season.

What artwork file does a hotel need to supply?

A PNG or JPG of your logo is fine, and SVG is accepted. Send the single-colour version. Solid shapes and clean lines reproduce best; hairline strokes and fine small print disappear in ice.

Are the trays food safe and durable enough for daily service?

They're made from platinum-cure, food-grade silicone, which doesn't go sticky or hold odours, and they're dishwasher-safe. One tray makes six 45 mm cubes per fill and is designed for daily hospitality use over years.
